Rev. Harry Schenkel grew up on the south shore of Long Island and graduated from Long Island Lutheran High School in 1987. While at LuHi, Pastor Schenkel first felt God’s call towards the Holy Ministry. Upon graduation, Pastor Schenkel attended Concordia College, Bronxville, NY (’91) and then Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana (’95). His internship and first call to the Ministry of the Lutheran Church was on the north fork of Long Island at Our Redeemer, Aquebogue. In late 1996, Pastor Schenkel was called to St John’s, Sayville, NY where he served as pastor and director of the Pre School for nearly 12 years. In 2009, Pastor Schenkel began making the transition from the LC-MS to the ELCA. He served for three years at Our Saviour, Jamaica, NY. In January 2012, he served as the term-call pastor at Transfiguration in Harlem, NY. From March 2013 through January 2021, Pastor Schenkel served at St Paul’s, East Northport, New York.

Pastor Schenkel currently sits on the Board of Long Island Lutheran High School. In the past he has served on the Executive Committee of the Synod Council of the Metro New York Synod of the ELCA, as well as the Board of the New York Lutheran Counseling Center. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, camping, traveling, and exercising. He is married to Lisa and they have four adult children – Harrison, Samantha, Mackenzie, and Hunter – and their German Shepherd, Luke (named after Star Wars, not the Gospel).
